More than anything, I’ve always been a student of life. On that note, I’m a firm believer that the sum of one’s life experiences should be used to inform beliefs, values, and expression.
My experience with writing began largely with my college education. Most notable is my acquisition of a Master’s Degree in Humanities & Religious Studies from Sacramento State University in 2016. In acquiring an MA Degree, my writing matured exponentially, and I continued to sharpen my critical thinking skills.
Yet my journey as an individual and as a writer has always been about more than book knowledge and theory. It’s about lived experiences.
I’m interested in exploring alternative ways of living to uncover insights into the self, cosmos, culture, and human connectivity. This incessant curiosity has always pushed me to “take the road less traveled.”
Over the years, I have lived on sailboats in the Bahamas, commercial cannabis farms in Northern California, a pop-up camper in the desert Southwest – and most recently, a conversion van. I’ve also spent large chunks of time exploring vast wilderness areas, including hiking the Colorado Trail and summiting all 58 of Colorado’s 14,000 ft peaks.
Today, I seek “to live” many of the concepts I write about. This notion is twofold:
- The best way to test or explore a theory is to go out into the world and experience it.
- The universe is a vast treasure trove of ideas, viewpoints, stories, and mythologies.
The energies of our world breathe life onto the page. And the words take on lives of their own.
My fascination with human culture has also led me inward. I’m a practicing Zen Buddhist, and notions like beginner’s mind, impermanence, mindfulness, and non-attachment inform much of my personal life philosophy – as well as my writing.
I’m deeply passionate about using the written word as a means for human connectivity and personal growth. Much of my work is inspired by the vast landscapes and oceanscapes of this planet; I’ve made it my personal mission to share this wonder with my readers.
